A facelift is a surgical procedure performed to correct sagging, loose skin and deep wrinkles in the face and neck that result from ageing. This operation rejuvenates the facial contour, giving the skin a tighter and more natural appearance.
Who is it suitable for?
• Individuals with sagging in the face and neck area
• Those who have not achieved results with fillers and Botox
• Those who wish to reshape their facial contours
Consultation
• The skin's elasticity, tissue depth, and degree of sagging are assessed.
• If necessary, the neck area is also evaluated.
• The patient's wishes and expected results are discussed.
• Medication use, allergies, and any previous procedures are reviewed.
The Surgical Procedure
1. Anaesthesia
• General anaesthesia is usually used.
• For smaller cases, local anaesthesia is used.
2. Making the Incisions
The incisions are usually made in areas where they can be hidden:
• In front of the ear
• Behind the ear
• Inside the hairline
This makes the scars almost invisible after the operation.
Recovery Process
• It is normal to experience swelling, a tight sensation, and mild bruising for the first 3–5 days.
• Sutures are removed within 1 week.
• The full result becomes visible within 6 months.
• Exercise and strenuous activities are restricted for 4–6 weeks.
There can be various causes of skin sagging:
• Ageing;
• Genetics;
• Significant weight loss;
• Hormonal imbalances.
Sagging in the face and neck area can be observed in some people as late as their late 30s, while others consider this procedure after the age of 50. According to experts, it is not advisable to wait for a long time once noticeable tissue laxity has begun. This is because, as time passes, the skin's elasticity diminishes, and the results the surgery can deliver may not be as favourable.
